Abstract

Paraganglioma is a neurogenic neoplasm characterized by a benign course. Rarely, it grows into adjacent organs and large vessels. When removing large neoplasms involving the main vessels, it is necessary to replace the vascular wall. The presented clinical case of retroperitoneal paraganglioma removal demonstrates the possibilities of the university clinic in the treatment of such patients.A 10-year-old boy underwent removal of a tumor of the retroperitoneal space on the left, which did not involve a segment of the inferior vena cava and the right renal vessels. Thanks to the replacement of the renal vessels and the inferior vena cava with a cadaveric allograph, the patient managed to preserve his own right kidney. This is critically important for the quality of later life. Such operations are infrequent and it can performedonly in multidisciplinary clinics by experienced surgeons.
